The Untitled Bonnard Project
I was broke one summer. I had to find my find my next paid creative assignment. I called my former meditation teacher Tom who always believed in me and has great intuition and connections.
When I called him he was on his way to meeting with one of his clients in Boston. And it just so happened that this wealthy client was looking for a woman in the arts who could speak French and knew how to write films to help him produce a film about Pierre Bonnard the painter and his relationship with his wife Martha and his lover Renée.
And so the journey began…
During out first meeting, Peter articulated his fondness of Bonnard’s artistic expression and his ideas for the project. He also revealed to me his dissatisfaction in his own marriage… I was a bit surprised that he would tell me this at our first meeting. I decided to ignore it and to move on to what really interested me..
Pierre Bonnard has always been one of my favorite painters; I remember having chosen him as my subject for a middle school art class assignment. What I liked about his work was how feminine and sensual it was. I loved the light that shined through and the feeling that things were in movement, ever morphing.
Peter wanted me to write an outline for a film whose main characters were Pierre Bonnard, Marthe de Méligny and Renée MonChaty and the central story was that of the ménage a trois between the three.
